Scholastic Children's Books, in partnership with Yomego, is launching a virtual world based on the publisher's 'Horrible Histories' book series.
The virtual work will offer fans of the 'Horrible Histories' books a chance to enter into, and be part of the historical world within the series.
The online world will feature a series of 'rooms' based on key historical periods, including Rotten Rome, Awesome Egypt and Terrible Tudor London.
When they enter the world, children will create an avatar of their choice.
They are then free to explore each world, discover the 'nasty bits' of history within them, and 'meet' and chat to other avatars.
Development plans also include an online virtual goods shop and a fully moderated chat facility.
