International branding and design consultancy WPA Pinfold has created the branding, visual language and tone-of-voice for npower's GBP20 million Greener Schools programme.

The campaign directly engages school children through an interactive environmental awareness programme called 'Climate Cops' launched on 14 November 2007 by pop star and mother Sophie Ellis-Bextor Climate Cops aims to educate children about energy saving in a fun and engaging way so that they can make a real difference to their school and the environment

The scheme includes a dedicated website, educational resources for teachers and interactive training days in schools.

WPA Pinfold created the identity and the supporting characters, Will, Oscar, Skye, K'eyush and Charlie, designed to appeal to children from seven to 11, as well as the merchandise for the campaign which includes; t-shirts, notebooks, scene-of-crime tape, climate crime cards, posters, certificates and badges.

Further branded materials were designed to be downloaded from the website.

Anne Chappell-Smith, campaign manager, npower, commented: "The challenge for WPA Pinfold was to create a set of characters that weren't necessarily super-heroes, but who the children could aspire to and identify with.

"The campaign aims at children aged seven to 11, quite a wide gap in age, and we believe Climate Cops fulfil that brief perfectly.

"The consultancy is the brand custodian and has made sure that all merchandise supports our key challenge of ensuring that the campaign is educational and fun".
