WPN creates hard-hitting cancer campaign
Direct marketing specialist Watson Phillips Norman (WPN) has created a new DRTV campaign for Cancer Research UK, the leading funder of cancer research in this country.
The campaign, which broke on 7 January 2008, will run for one month on the following digital channels: Travel, Classic, Life One, Sky Travel, Wedding, Sky Movies, UK Documentary, UK People, MTV, Virgin 1, Living, DSCHandH, Sky Sports 3, Challenge, C4 Scotland, Paramount, History, E!, Movies 4 Men, Zreality, Animal, UK History, C4 South, Sky Sports 2, and the following terrestrial channels: Five - London, Five - Scotland, S4C The advert is designed to recruit new financial supporters and also to attract the attention of men who are not frequently targeted by cancer charities
The ad calls for donors to set up a regular gift by phone or through the charity's website.
The ad's director, Clare Kilner, was approached by WPN due to her great reputation in commercials, as well as her feature film hits 'How To Deal' with Mandy Moore, and 'The Wedding Date' starring Will and Grace's Debra Messing, which was released in 2005.
Kilner was so keen to work with Cancer Research UK that she flew in from LA to work on the commercial.
In addition, Lord of the Rings star, Sean Bean, kindly offered his voice to the ad.
Gail Cookson of WPN commented: "The creative idea behind the new campaign is extremely moving, following a father and son on a fishing trip.
"The story plays on the parent/child relationship, showing how when a parent becomes ill, roles can often become reversed.
"The viewer follows the characters through their journey, and the story ends with a sense of uncertainty".
