The Va researches attitudes to gift vouchers
An industry survey has revealed that giving gift cards or vouchers is one of the best ways to avoid giving an unsuitable or unwanted present that "you really shouldn't have" this Christmas.
Corporate sales, which have overtaken business-to-consumer sales for the first time in three years, have risen by 8.4% compared with the same period in 2006.
Information Resource Inc, an independent statistical survey company, compiled the quarterly report using UK sales figures from members of The Va.
Andrew Johnson, Director General of The Va, commented: "These sales figures indicate that the voucher industry is continuing to develop and expand in an evolving marketplace.
"The sale of corporate vouchers, gift cards and stored-value solutions to organisations that use them as part of employee reward and recognition programmes is one sector in particular that is flourishing".
The Va was established as a trade body in 1996 to represent the key players in the £3bn corporate gift vouchers, cards and stored-value solutions market.
It provides an information and reference point for both voucher and gift card suppliers and customers, and is at the forefront of the issues affecting the industry.
Its main objective is to raise the profile and use of vouchers and gift cards within the UK, promoting the industry to consumers, businesses, government and other interested parties.
All members benefit from Va seminars, forums, training courses and social events.
