Capgemini reveals smarter shoppers
Capgemini research has shown that more consumers are turning towards online shopping as the UK's financial downturn continues.
The company revealed that internet shopping has increased by 38 per cent since January compared with the same period in 2007, with the biggest gains in clothing, lingerie and shoes - products that normally require physical touching, fitting and inspection of quality.
Capgemini also suggested the shift in consumer activity could be to the detriment of physical high street outlets, and said it was the responsibility of retailers to ensure that their site provided a good user experience; otherwise customers would simply choose to shop online at a more customer-friendly competitor.
