Issues management guru George Pitcher leads a stellar line up of public relations experts addressing teachers and students at University College Falmouth's Tremough campus on 17 January 2008.

The event will showcase the benefits of studying PR at university, providing teachers and students with a clear picture of what PR is, how it works and how to succeed in the business.

George Pitcher co-founded the issues management consultancy Luther Pendragon in 1992 after four years as Industrial Editor at the Observer.

Prior to selling the business in 2005, George published his seminal book 'The Death of Spin' in 2002.

He is now Chairman of international public relations consultancy Bridgit Kildare, and continues to practice as an Anglican priest at St Bride's church, Fleet Street.

Joining him for the Media Education Network event will be two Cornwall-based PR practitioners: Mohamed Al-Fayed's former press spokesman, Conor Nolan, who now runs CNC Marketing and Media Relations near St Austell, and Sue Wolstenholme, founder of Callington's Ashley Public Relations and President of the European Public Relations Education and Research Association.

Pitcher said: "With over five hundred published definitions of PR, it's no wonder that most people - practitioners included - struggle to grasp exactly what it is.

"Despite this, PR consistently ranks among graduates' top three career choices, and sixth-formers making critical decisions about higher education have much to gain from a clearer picture of the lively - and generally lucrative - career path it offers".

Jon Cope, course leader of the new BA (Hons) Public Relations degree at University College Falmouth, said: "This free PR masterclass event is open to all teachers and year 12/13 students wishing to gain a better understanding of PR, and specifically how studying PR at university can enhance students' prospects of employment in this highly competitive field".

University College Falmouth is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall initiative, which is funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
