Saudi TV, Saudi Arabia's national broadcasting corporation, is launching striking new brand identities for its four core channels, created by international branding experts Turquoise.

The starting point was to create a bold new network mark for Saudi TV to feature across all its channels The TV idents for each channel have then been created by focusing on a strong brand proposition for each to create a distinctive visual language which highlights each channel's content and strengths

Assad Abu Al Jadail, CEO at Jeddah-based broadcast consultants Creative Edge, who have been spearheading the revamp, said: "Turquoise has done a great job at identifying the core strengths of the channels and portraying these in a relevant, modern and very creative way.

"The new branding for Saudi TV is visually very strong and demonstrates to viewers the many reasons why Saudi TV is still the market leader".

The unifying Saudi TV logo for all the channels features the iconic national Saudi symbol of palm tree and swords, given a contemporary twist.

The logo and channel identities use a green colour palette, inspired by the colours of the flag of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Turquoise has created three idents for Saudi 1, Saudi TV's flagship channel.

These use traditional dancing, architectural imagery and technological imagery to demonstrate the heritage, culture and modern technology focus of the country.

KSA2 is the primary English language TV channel in Saudi Arabia, providing the burgeoning ex-pat community with unrivalled insights into the kingdom.

The idents created for this channel are inspired by glass, reflecting different aspects of life in Saudi Arabia, including the sea, architecture, desert etc.

For Saudi 3, Saudi TV's dynamic sports channel, Turquoise has created a series of fast-moving idents featuring the top-level sports that the channel covers.

Turquoise has also created a new brand for Saudi TV's News offering for use on its 24-hour news channel with ITN (Al Ekhbariya) and also its News programming on Saudi 1 and 2.

Its innovative new branding takes creative inspiration from map contours.

Gareth Mapp, Executive Creative Director of Turquoise, which has offices in the UK and Dubai, commented: "As the broadcast market in the Middle East becomes increasingly competitive, it is important for Saudi TV to reinforce its position as the pre-eminent provider of top quality content in the kingdom.

"The development of a unified look across its channels, combined with idents that portray the unique style of each channel, creates real equity for the Saudi TV brand and places the corporation firmly on an international platform".

As well as creating the on-screen graphics, Turquoise has also created much of the collateral for the brand launch, including trade activity such as DVDs, brochures and also consumer press advertising to direct viewers to check out the channels' striking new looks.
