PTC brings digital marketing skills to publishers
The Publishing Training Centre (PTC) has joined forces with the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) to offer a new course in Digital Marketing for Publishers, which will run on 21-22 May.
Based on the IDM's highly successful Complete Digital Marketing course, the two-day event will focus in on those areas most relevant to the publishing industry.
It will include a presentation from Ros Lawler, Digital Marketing Director at Random House, who will also be leading a free seminar on marketing using social media at the London Book Fair on 16 April.
According to John Whitley, PTC's Chief Executive: "As an educational charity, the Publishing Training Centre has a responsibility to help ensure that skills are up to date.
"Marketers in publishing have a fairly specialised role, with significant challenges not always faced by their counterparts in other industries.
"We're delighted to be working with the IDM, combining their expertise in direct marketing with our experience of delivering training to publishers.
"This collaboration helps us to ensure that publishers get specialist training tailored to their needs".
If the May course proves to be successful, the way is open for further events later in the year.
Joanna King, Programme Director at the IDM, said: "This is a great opportunity for the IDM to reach a new audience and to help the publishing industry really make the most of what digital media have to offer.
"For many, this kind of marketing represents an entirely new challenge and it's part of our role to make sure that marketers everywhere are ready to meet it".
The Publishing Training Centre (PTC) was set up more than 25 years ago to provide courses in all aspects of book and journal publishing.
As the training provider for the industry, it aims to promote excellence in publishing and to help people in publishing to fulfil their potential.
Today, PTC runs 70 open courses in everything from writing and editing for the web to PR in publishing.
These courses are available as public courses, but can also be tailored to the needs of individual organisations and run in-house.
There are also distance learning programmes in proofreading, copy-editing, picture research, copywriting and editorial project management, plus an online grammar course.
