The Manor House impresses with food and wine
The Manor House has received two great accolades this month for the care and attention to detail paid to food and wine at the conference centre and hotel located in Godalming, Surrey.
In the space of just two weeks, The Manor House has been approved by the Vegetarian Society and Nick Jeffels, Head Chef, has been awarded the 'Best Wine Selection' prize at the hotly contested Chef's Challenge.
He fought off competition from other conference centre chefs to make it through to the final round of the CCE/IACC Chef's Challenge - a live "against the clock" cook-off held at South Warwickshire College.
His delicious three-course menu was accompanied by a carefully selected wine list and it was this wine selection that won him one of the few individual prizes.
Jeffels explained: "We pride ourselves on offering a very high standard of food and wine at The Manor House, and design wine selections which complement our seasonal menus.
"This was the first year I have entered the Chef's Challenge so I'm delighted to win an award and it was a great experience - I'll be back next year to try and scoop another one".
The approval by the Vegetarian Society was further confirmation of the effort that goes into every aspect of food and drink service at The Manor House.
Before approving a venue, the Vegetarian Society considers a wide range of factors from the menu options available, to the origin of store cupboard ingredients and policies on food preparation.
Ellen Bridges, pastry chef at The Manor House, took the initiative to seek accreditation and explained: "As a chef and a vegetarian, I'm proud to work somewhere where we respect all the food we cook.
"We put a great deal of effort and imagination into our vegetarian food and we wanted to promote the fact that we really do our best to look after this frequently neglected group".
Thinking about more than just the meal options, The Manor House also has a good selection of vegetarian wines, cheeses, cooking oils, breads and only uses free-range eggs.
It is all part of The Manor House's philosophy to offer a wide choice of high-quality food and beverages and to cater for any special dietary requirements - there is even gluten-free beer available in the bar.
