Commencing in July with the publication of the Farnborough directory, the Thomson Local will become The Book.
Commenting on the challenges ahead, Brown said: "My aims at Thomson Directories are to drive usage across the business and to therefore provide SMEs with the products and level of support they need to grow their own businesses.
The Nectar partnership we recently launched is a major step towards achieving this.
For the first time in this industry, users will be rewarded for calling advertisers.
We expect usage to be uplifted significantly as a result." On his reasons for leaving Yell to join its main competitor, Brown says: "The opportunity for expanding the whole Thomson Directories business is a more exciting prospect than defending market share." Brown has an impressive track record in sales and marketing including stints with the AA, VW and latterly Abbey National as director of marketing operations.
