McNaughton rides the wind of change
As part of its Sustainable Solutions programme, printing group James McNaughton plans to erect a wind turbine on its gm2 Logistics site at Hilltop in Leicestershire.
The turbine is capable of producing over 2 million kWh of renewable and zero emission energy and should supply all of the 200,000 sq ft site's electricity for the next 30 years, reducing the group's carbon emissions by over 760 tonnes a year.
McNaughton has already converted all of its sites to 100 per cent renewable green electricity but this new turbine will certainly make the 200,000 site unique within the paper industry, and become a very visible landmark for the area.
Howard Browning, Director for Corporate Responsibility, said: "This is another exciting step in our environmental plan - we have already made a reduction of our energy consumption in excess of 20 per cent and the installation of a wind turbine will represent a further step towards a more environmentally sustainable business".
The turbine is planned to be in place by the end of 2008.
The James McNaughton Group is a major supplier of graphic and office paper, board, plastics and other substrates to the graphic arts and printing markets in the UK and Ireland with a turnover in excess of GBP260 million.
