CIM seminar to focus on regulatory changes
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is to host a Shape the Agenda: Marketing and the Law' seminar on 20 May 2009 in Dorset.
At the event, Mark Stuart, head of research at the CIM, will address the changes to marketing regulations and legislation regarding digital campaigns.
Marketers are facing a climate of increasingly restrictive legislation in the UK.
In the past, self-regulation has been the basis for marketing's relationship with the government, but this self-regulatory framework is now being overwritten with legislation.
The CIM's Shape the Agenda: Marketing and the Law annual update event will discuss how marketers can respond to legislative changes in the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive and learn what digital marketing campaigns are legally compliant.
The seminar forms part of The CIM's biannual 'Shape the Agenda' papers, which are presented across the country.
At the event, businesses will learn how they can assist and reinforce self-regulation in order to avoid damaging their brand and encountering costly legal proceedings.
Stuart will also argue the fact that 'raising the bar' enables marketers to present marketing in a more positive light and demonstrate they are willing to identify their legal responsibilities and communicate their actions to the wider business.
