CIM audit revokes chartered status of 87 marketers

A The Chartered Institute of Marketing product story
Edited by the Marketingweek Marketplace editorial team Dec 19, 2008

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has completed its annual audit of chartered marketers and, as a result, 87 marketers have had their chartered status revoked.

Each year, the CIM randomly audits 10 per cent of its chartered marketers to ensure they are keeping up-to-date with changes in the marketing profession and continuing their professional development.

Those selected must send evidence of their 35 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity to the CIM to prove they are meeting the requirements of chartered marketer status.

Chris Daly, director of membership at the CIM, said: 'It's important that all marketers on our chartered CPD programme maintain their commitment to professional development and continue to learn and develop.

'Those who fail to do so will lose their hard-earned chartered marketer status, and risk damaging their professional reputation.

As with chartered status in other professions, such as accountancy or surveying, chartered marketer status demonstrates to colleagues, employers and clients that the individual has reached the very highest level of training, ability and experience possible in the profession.

More than 10,000 marketers around the world are now involved in the chartered CPD programme, up 80 per cent on 18 months ago.

Employers are increasingly looking for professionally qualified marketers who are up- to-date with the latest social, technological and legal developments in marketing.

The CIM is the only body able to confer chartered marketer status on individuals.
