Paul Martenstyn, the first Barristers Clerk to be awarded the Professional Certificate in Marketing, talked about the need for law firms to embrace marketing techniques at the Bar Council in London.

Paul Martenstyn, a Barristers Clerk at Hardwicke Building, was invited by the Institute of Barristers Clerks to provide content for a seminar around how marketing can be used by law firms and the benefits of one of The Chartered Institute of Marketing's qualifications.

Besides those attending at the Bar Council offices, the event was also simultaneously video linked to barristers clerks in Leeds and Newcastle.

Speaking after the event Martenstyn said: "By studying the Professional Certificate in Marketing I was able to broaden my understanding and knowledge of marketing, and now I want to share the important lessons I've learnt.

"In an increasingly competitive environment, it is vital that the legal profession gets to grips with marketing.

"Legal firms can no longer rely solely on their reputations - marketing is essential for finding new clients and building long-term loyalty".

Martenstyn successfully completed his Professional Certificate in Marketing in February 2007 through The Chartered Institute of Marketing's Academy, which each year trains around 700 delegates.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing offers four levels of qualifications - the Introductory Certificate in Marketing, the Professional Certificate in Marketing, the Professional Diploma in Marketing and the Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.
