CIM appoints new chief examiner
The Chartered Institute of Marketing has promoted long-serving senior examiner Dr Ruth Ashford to become its new chief examiner.
Dr Ashford has been a senior examiner for The Institute since 1999 and has played a significant role in helping maintain the high standard of The Institute's qualifications Dr Ashford will assume the role with immediate effect

Dr Ashford now takes full responsibility for ensuring the credibility of the qualifications remains at the highest level and meet the rigorous standards set by The Chartered Institute of Marketing and the government, through its Qualification Curriculum Authority.
This will include making sure all Chartered Institute of Marketing qualifications and examinations are ratified, moderated and appropriate at the correct level.
Her remit also includes managing all appeals and student disciplinary procedures, ensuring consistency and fairness, and advising on assessment strategy and revisions.

Dr Ashford will be joined by Dr Ahmad Jamal, who takes over her previous role as senior examiner for Marketing Planning on The Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Diploma in Marketing, and Professor Keith Fletcher, the new director of education.
Dr Ashford said of her appointment: "I'm immensely proud to take on this prestigious position - The Chartered Institute of Marketing plays a pivotal role in the professional development of marketers at all levels and I now look forward to working closely with members of the exam boards and the wider marketing community".
Rod Wilkes, chief executive of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, commented: "I'm delighted that Dr Ashford has agreed to take on board the role of chief examiner; sSince joining us in 1999, she has shown unwavering commitment to upholding the credibility of our qualifications, to maintaining standards across the profession and in her support for the work of The Institute.
"Dr Ashford is ideally placed to ensure that all our qualifications remain relevant to today's ever-evolving business environment".
Dr Ashford is also a member of the Academic Senate of The Chartered Institute of Marketing and is head of division at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School.
She is an acclaimed author and has co-written a number of marketing books, including Marketing Planning with K Beamish and Marketing Fundamentals with G Lancaster and F Withey.
Articles have been published in a number of leading marketing and business journals, including Journal of Marketing Management, International Journal of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Marketing, Business Review and Journal of Communication Management.
