New Year, new start for training
September may be the traditional time for thinking about professional qualifications but marketers no longer have to restrict themselves to once a year.
Yet they do not always feel able to respond to such developments effectively or confidently.
"Companies that ignore this do so at their peril as it is marketing that has been proven to contribute more to a company's bottom-line success than any other business function," said Geoff Hurst, marketing director at The Chartered Institute of Marketing.
"As marketing is so important to a business, overcoming these hurdles and giving marketers more confidence in their knowledge of their profession is an absolute must for any forward-thinking company".

CIM survey sees erosion of advertising dominance
The latest Marketing Trends Survey from The CIM has revealed that while advertising is still the biggest item in marketing budgets, more resource is being devoted to other activities.
What the survey also showed is that 89% of marketers felt that their formal marketing qualifications helped them significantly when it came to understanding their profession.
And they have the added benefit of boosting motivation and morale and fostering innovation.
The skills and knowledge that marketers gain from professional qualifications create the confidence to challenge conventional thinking within a company and drive the changes needed to exploit opportunities or tackle hurdles as they arise.
The Chartered Institute of Marketing provides a range of professional qualifications, from certificate level for those with little or no understanding of marketing, up to postgraduate level for more experienced marketers.
Flexible study methods are available and include intensive residential learning, part-time study, evening classes, e-learning and distance learning.
The Institute, which has 50,000 members worldwide and exists to develop the marketing profession, maintain professional standards and improve the skills of marketing practitioners, also runs a workshop and short courses programme that enable marketers to keep up to date with new developments and thinking in marketing.
Full details of all professional qualifications, workshops and short courses can be found at www.cim.co.uk.
