Star Radio in Cambridge makes award shortlist

A Star Radio product story
Edited by the Marketingservicestalk editorial team Nov 2, 2007

Star Radio in Cambridge and Ely is proud to announce a nomination for the Community Award in this year's European Radio Awards.

With over 3,500 terrestrial radio stations and thousands more internet, community and satellite stations across Europe, the European Radio Awards showcase the best radio professionals across the Continent.

Nomination for the award was for Star Radio's "Liam's Mile" concept, which was a fundraising idea by Star Radio's programme controller and Breakfast show presenter Mark Peters.

Liam's Mile involved an incredibly brave 11-year-old called Liam Fairhurst swimming a mile to raise money for a charity called CLIC Sargent, the charity that has helped him and his family while he has been receiving treatment for cancer.

Commenting on the nomination Star Radio's Peters said: "This is a fantastic achievement for us, for a local radio station to be recognised at an international level really is impressive.

"Liam has continued the campaign beyond our initial idea himself though to raise in excess of GBP120,000: we all have so much respect for him, he is the real Star".

The awards ceremony takes place in Barcelona on 5 November.
