Welsh valley printer nears century of
business
Stephens and George Print Group set out in 1912 to provide superior quality, service and value and those aims still resonate today.
The success of Stephens and George Print Group came from humble beginnings, steeped in the heritage of coal and iron in the valleys This massive human endeavour built a large but close knit community and brought a new economic prosperity to the area
The economy was booming when, in 1912, David Stephens and William George set up a printing company to serve flourishing businesses.
Their determination to provide superior quality, service and value, strengthened by a work ethic and resilience born of their valleys heritage, served them well.
The company continued to prosper, despite the turbulent changes of the 1930s depression and the death of "Old King Coal".
Maldwyn Evan Jones steered the Stephens and George team through the 1950s and 1960s and passed on his skills and knowledge to his son Gareth who in turn passed it on to his son Andrew.
It was Gareth Jones who set the foundations for the SandG Print Group of today.
His vision was to develop a group of companies each contributing specialist printing services for customers with specific printing needs.
Each company concentrates on what it does best.
When they invest in technology, they invest where it affords greatest benefit to their customers.
And when they employ, they employ staff with specialist skills in their specific area of printing.
These changes have led to a quiet revolution and the company that has been leading the way in the valleys,is now a pace setter in its own field.
Today, the SandG Print Group is a leading force in UK printing.
The multimillion-pound investment programme created a 120,000 sq ft, state-of-the-art printing plant in Merthyr Tydfil.
They've employed world-leading technology to create a total printing solution, focused on the needs of their customers, and the client list, including some of Britain's most sought after publishers, is growing all the time.
Stephens and George Print Group is made up of four divisions; SandG Magazines, SGC Printing, SandG Bindery and the trade finishing arm, Pelican Print Finishing.
