Mailing firm picks up green business award

Reading-based SOLO Mailing Services is on track to represent the UK in the European Business Awards for the Environment.

The company has just been notified that it is among the major winners in the Green Apple Environment Awards - one of the few accredited feeder schemes into the international campaign.

It will be presented with a Green Apple Award at the House of Commons later this year, when top winners have the chance to represent their country in the Brussels event.

Sue Owen, SOLO's Managing Director, commented: "I am extremely pleased that our decision to 'do the right thing' is being recognised - it's a tough sell for the old-school direct marketers but people are starting to see now that mailing smaller volumes to smarter data selections actually can pay.

"It also helps the staff at SOLO and our customers to sleep at night.

"Our customers have started to receive their certificates sent each quarter to show them how many trees we have planted on their behalf as part of our Tree Appeal campaign.

"I think they have been pleasantly surprised to see how their work can benefit us all".

As part of this Green Apple Award SOLO will be invited to join the National Green Heroes, an elite group of environmental achievers who use their experience to help thousands of others - and the environment - around the world.

The Green Apple Awards are now in their 14th year and attracted more than 500 nominations this year.

They are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
