New version of Cygnus tackles Giftaid
challenge
The latest version of data-processing software Cygnus aims to address the name-matching problems encountered by charities trying to claim Giftaid from poor or incomplete addresses.
Cygnus will now feature the Capscan product Matchcode Names, which uses the 44 million names on the National Canvasse Lifestyle Database, supplied under license from Experian The solution links contact names to relevant PAF (Postcode Address File) households, allows name-searches, and will also enable users to batch-clean whilst simultaneously matching against the PAF database

The Software Bureau has launched an enhanced version of flagship product Cygnus that includes an embedded Mortascreen file, the first time this has been incorporated into data management software.
Help the Aged appoints The Software Bureau
Leading international charity Help the Aged is the latest organisation to opt for in-house donor management, through its appointment of The Software Bureau.
The Software Bureau, whose clients include Mind, esure, Direct Wines and Golley Slater, developed the module with charities specifically in mind, following the appointment by mental health charity Mind this year.
This latest module builds on the first embedded suppression version which incorporated MPS, Disconnect by Equifax and Mortascreen by Milllenium.
David Murray, Sales Director at The Software Bureau, explained: "The cost-effective nature of Cygnus means it is perfect for charities, allowing them to take their data processing in-house.
"With this latest version, we wanted to use our experience in the charity sector to address other challenges charities may face, for example, Giftaid declarations are a crucial part of charity income, but many organisations simply don't have the cost-effective data-processing capabilities to ensure they make the most of the opportunity to reclaim tax by having accurate name and address data.
"This new module should change that for good not only with Gift Aid but also for cleansing and verifying their supporter bases".
Rod Amies, Capscan Partner Manager, commented: "Clients of Cygnus can now ensure that their contact databases are populated with only accurate information by validating the names and addresses; Matchcode Names further improves the accuracy and quality of data contained in the database, which is an essential component of successful marketing campaigns and cost reduction to Cygnus users.
"The addition of Matchcode Names has enhanced the Cygnus offering, and is a good indicator of the continuing success and excellent working relations of the two companies.
"The new development further strengthens the six-year partnership between Capscan and The Software Bureau".
