Catalogue company signs up to Sustainable Mail

A Royal Mail product story
Edited by the Marketingweek Marketplace editorial team May 28, 2009

Royal Mail has announced Lands' End as the first catalogue company to sign up to Sustainable Mail, a bulk mail service that offers a lower price tariff for firms that meet environmental standards.

Lands' End, which sells high-quality casual clothing and footwear by mail order and online, has posted its first catalogues using the Sustainable Mail product.

The Sustainable Mail product is priced up to 4.7 per cent lower than standard Mailsort prices and will be available to companies that meet criteria based on three key environmental needs - improved sustainability, minimised waste and increased recyclability.

Sustainable Mail and the Responsible Mail product offered by Royal Mail's wholesale division are consistent with the forthcoming BSI standard for Environmental Performance for Direct Marketing.

The standard, PAS 2020, was announced in January with the backing of Royal Mail as well as others including the Direct Marketing Association, Acxiom and ISBA.
