Powergen has launched a new transactional website designed by digital agency, Redweb.

Powergen a company of E.ON, has redesigned the site as part of the transition to the E.ON brand Redweb was appointed following a pitch

The site has a new look and feel to represent the brand online and features improved navigation and enhanced usability.

Calls to action encourage consumers to sign up to switch their energy and to 'go green'.

They can also manage their account online.

It is supported by a multichannel advertising campaign including print, sponsorship and outdoor and broadcast activity.

The campaign emphasises E.ON's commitment to bringing the benefits of a global energy company to UK consumers, providing sustainable energy for the future.

Sharron Chatham, Customer Experience Manager of powergen.co.uk, explained: "The website is a key part of bringing the Powergen and E.ON brands closer together.

"The brands are very different in the way that they interact with the customer and that needed to be reflected in the online experience so we organised a pitch for the project.

"We selected Redweb because of their user-centred design approach which focused on the different user journeys to ensure the site architecture fulfilled their needs".

The site design process included the implementation of the E.ON brand guidelines across the site and new information architecture.

Fundamental to the design process were two rounds of usability testing, where the proposed customer journeys were tested on energy customers before the final website was built.

The user requirements were then incorporated into the design and site architecture.

The process demonstrated the different needs of an existing customer querying their account from a prospect involved in the sales process.

Andrew Henning, Managing Director of Rebweb, added: "One of the world's largest energy companies, E.ON needed to combine a new visual brand identity and improvements to the online customer experience into the new site for Powergen.

"The challenge for our team was to adapt guidelines originally written for the wider European market into a successful retail site for the highly competitive and advanced UK energy market".

Powergen currently offers a wide product range to around seven million electricity and gas customer accounts in the UK.

This includes energy, gas, internet based energy products and technical solutions for efficient energy and regenerative energy sources for both domestic and business users.

Formed in 1996 by Andrew Henning, Redweb combines quality design, a solid understanding of usability and an advanced level of in-house software engineering to deliver market leading websites for clients including the Identity and Passport Service, Sky and Powergen.

Redweb recognises that web design and development is a unique discipline.

No other medium combines design, human interaction, technology and information architecture to the levels required by web design.

The focus is on user-focused design , CRM and security.

Because of the sensitive work Redweb undertakes for some government departments, all staff are security cleared and Redweb hold the ISO27001 in Information Security Management.

The company understands that it is our business and our people that are important and not just the product.

Hence Redweb works hard, aims to offer very high levels of customer service, has a quality management system and operates both a production and sales environment ; all of which benefit the staff and ensure stable growth for the future.
