Leading design and communication company Research Studios, founded by Neville Brody in 1994, is opening a fifth international office in Barcelona this week.

The move consolidates the studio's global presence with branches in London, Paris, Berlin and New York.

Research Studios Barcelona will be run by Pablo Rovalo, one of the early collaborators at Research Studios London in the 1990s.

Rovalo's design experience links his native Mexico with Europe in projects that have allowed him to experiment with identity, print, motion, signage and environments.

The new studio will have an active presence in Catalonia, Spain and Portugal while expanding an existing client base in Latin America and the USA.

Rovalo commented: "Barcelona is an open, cosmopolitan city, a brilliant urban space, with a strong personality and an international reputation.

"At the forefront of both economic transformation and cultural change Barcelona is playing an active role in Spain's future and Research Studios will also be playing an active role in that change process.

"Opening this studio enables us to push the boundaries of communication with groundbreaking experimental projects and developing award-winning visual languages.

"Design is my way to withstand uniformity and the commonplace.

"More than a job it is an aesthetic phenomenon, a responsibility and a brilliant opportunity for creating new, purposeful and amazing experiences".

Neville Brody, founder of Research Studios, said: "It makes sense that Pablo, as one of the most talented graphic artists and typographers currently working in the industry worldwide, should be heading up Research Studios Barcelona.

"We have always sought out the very best design practitioners and allowed them to engage with interesting and challenging projects for a roster of diverse brands.

"Barcelona will run on the same principle shared by the Research Studios network, open collaboration between offices and designers bringing their own personal background and their cultural surround to bear on projects to create groundbreaking design solutions".
