Rainbow Productions has announced that the number of Easter events attended by its licensed costume characters has increased by 33 per cent compared with Easter 2008.

48 events featuring guest appearances from celebrity licensed characters took place across the UK over the Easter weekend.

A range of sectors in the economy booked character appearances during this period, helping these venues to appeal even more to family audiences in their catchment area and driving footfall to their Easter holiday events.

Within the leisure sector, families were able to meet and greet Rainbow costume characters over Easter at locations including Chessington World of Adventures, Pleasure Beach Blackpool, Crealy's Adventure Park in Devon and Cornwall, as well as Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset.

Shoppers at venues such as Westfield London, the Victoria Centre in Southend and Freshney Place in Grimsby also had the opportunity to experience entertainment at their shopping destination.

In addition, stores on the high street received licensed character visits over Easter, including Hamley's on Regent Street, a number of Game stores and Sainsbury's.

As well as retail and leisure sector events over Easter, Bob the Builder also attended the Ideal Home Exhibition in London and Bart Simpson visited a family fun outdoor event in Birmingham.
