Purple Pilchard signs sauce maker

A Purple Pilchard product story
Edited by the Marketingservicestalk editorial team Jun 28, 2007

The progress of PR company Purple Pilchard continues unabated this month with the eagerly anticipated arrival of Manchester-based Afro-Caribbean sauces and pastes partner Naija.

TNS data confident predicts that Afro-Caribbean cuisine will become the next great taste in the radiant ethnic food sector, Pilchard is looking forward to assisting Naija with its forthcoming PR, website and pack copy needs.

Unlike the major suppliers of Afro-Caribbean cuisine into the UK, Naija is not an import-based business, but a compact, 'food miles' friendly local producer of feisty pastes and sauces that simmer with authority and authenticity.

Originally conceived in their Lancashire restaurant, The Palmgrove, Naija is the realisation of a dream for John and Stella Osammar who were looking for an involving yet less stressful respite from their demanding day jobs as a surgeon (John) and an accomplished author/university lecturer (Stella).

Co-founder John Osammar said: "Unlike so many of our Afro-Caribbean compatriots, we've fought hard to create a lively look that not only underpins our premium positioning in a highly competitive UK marketplace but stubbornly refuses to relinquish any element of our proud African roots.

"To some, our vivid labels may well appear a little loud and sparky but, if you're genuinely proud of what you've produced, why not be prepared to shout from the shelves?".
