Pitney Bowes MS wins Employer of the Year Award
Tomorrow's People in partnership with its employment project 'Getting London Working' has awarded Pitney Bowes Management Services (PBMS) the Employer of the Year Award.
The award recognises organisations that are truly committed to helping people into sustainable jobs.
Pitney Bowes, supported by Citi, has worked on this government-sponsored project for the past three years.
The Citi mailroom based at the Citigroup Centre, Canary Wharf, and managed by Pitney Bowes, takes on unemployed people through 'Getting London Working'.
It provides two weeks of training and skills development leaving trainees with improved job prospects and the ability to gain employment.
At the 'Awards for Achievement' Ceremony held at Plaisterers Hall in the City of London on 30 October, the Countess of Wessex presented the award to John McCaig and Bill Major, representatives of the Pitney Bowes Mailroom team at Citi.
McCaig and Major have worked hard mentoring and training people who often have no qualifications and poor skills, providing them with another chance of employment.
This year 16 people have been through the scheme and 10 have been employed by Pitney Bowes in the mailroom.
Having been runners up in 2006 both McCaig and Major were delighted to receive the prestigious award.
Anita Mather, Global Head of General Services at Citi, said: "This is a great example of our commitment to making a real positive difference in our local communities by ensuring Citi's workplaces are inclusive, as well as through shared values with our supply chain".
Richard Thompson, Managing Director, PBMS, commented: "We are delighted to have been recognised for our commitment to helping unemployed people gain valuable skills - together with Citi and the Getting London Working project we are able to reach out to people and help turn their lives around.
"Our involvement in the venture further underpins our corporate social responsibility commitment and we are keen to create more opportunities via the scheme".
