How to make web advertising work
Irrelevant and intrusive online ads can prejudice consumers against a brand, so Derick Hill, MD of online permission-based marketing company PDV, offers advice on how to get web advertising right.
Bryn Morgan, marketing director PDV, said: "Both IDMF and co-located Internet World were very well attended by both suppliers and clients and the skills and knowledge sessions were full to overflowing.
"There was a lot of interest in our online, permission-based marketing products, including data collection, data rental and onscreen advertising products.
"Both the IDMF and Internet World featured many internet companies, the main difference seemed to be that those which exhibited at the IDMF appeared to be the established companies with validated, proven products, while Internet World featured quite a lot of young companies launching new, untried products.
"We took the opportunity to market test our new product releases and feedback was positive, as was reaction to our new sales brochures.
one of which included information about PDV's Dynamic Scorecard, which reveals what people did yesterday, rather than what they said six months ago.
"We also ran a number of competitions just like those we run on the web: we gave away 15 iPods and Canon cameras as prizes, in exchange for responses to a variety of questions, demonstrating just how easy it is to collect opted-in data in a fun and fast way.
"Not surprisingly, these competitions proved particularly popular.".
