Automated courier booking for online retailers

A Parcel Shipping Manager product story
Edited by the Marketingweek Marketplace editorial team Feb 7, 2008

Parcel Shipping Manager is the latest development in the ongoing relationship between P4D, expert in the parcel delivery market, and Polyspaston, a software development company.

P4D provides a service that scans the market to find the cheapest courier based on the destination and parcel dimensions.

Polyspaston have enabled P4D to provide this service with maximum automation, culminating in a direct link between P4D's website and the UK's major courier companies so bookings can be placed direct without any human intervention.

Parcel Shipping Manager builds on this experience and takes online parcel booking to the next level.

Shipping Manager is designed to save busy online retailers the time and effort of manually having to book each item they sell with a courier.

Instead the retailer creates an account with Shipping Manager and at the click of a button all of their orders that require shipping are downloaded into the Shipping Manager system.

This includes the collection and delivery addresses, the parcel contents, dimensions and weight.

The Shipping Manager software then automatically presents the retailer with the cheapest option and allows them to book with one click.

Booking a parcel takes a few minutes using the conventional method, using Shipping Manager it takes only a couple of seconds - freeing retailers to concentrate on the core of their business instead.

Shipping Manager is compatible with several e-commerce platforms including eBay, osCommerce, Zen Cart and ShopDirector.

Further platforms plan to be added over the coming months.

Customer feedback has been very positive.

Steve B,, an eBay powerseller, said: "I can't believe the functionality and the ease of use, I will definitely be using Shipping Manager from now on".

Steven Abel, MD of P4D, can see the benefits of Shipping Manager being enjoyed by anyone who sells online and uses a courier service for the delivery of their products: "This really is an exciting and significant development, offering all users, regardless of size, the benefits of a quick and easy system.

"Customer service staff can monitor the status of each parcel and react to problems promptly, sometimes even before a customer has realised that a problem even existed".

There are no registration costs or membership fees for using Shipping Manager and there is nothing to install on your PC.

Online retailers just need to create an account and then log in.

It is easy to use and provides a number of administrative functions allowing users to manage their shipments, track and trace their deliveries and print invoices and labels.
