Onepost has issued a whitepaper that gives an insight into the attitudes of consumers and businesses towards the use of recycling messages on direct mail.

The whitepaper comes as the direct marketing industry comes to grips with a raft of new environmental targets for 2010.

The research summarises the key issues facing the direct-mail industry and notes that education is the key factor for both consumers and businesses to better understand and implement best practice.

The findings revealed that consumers were surprised that any company would not consider putting a recycle logo/message on their direct mail piece.

Alex Walsh, head of postal affairs at the Direct Marketing Association urged the industry to take note of this research and said: 'I hope many businesses will read the whitepaper and act on the findings.

'There is a raft of government environmental targets to meet and the direct marketing industry must take greater responsibility to ensure we deliver our share of the waste strategy objectives without the need for additional government intervention.
