Direct marketing forum focuses on sustainability
Onepost hosted the first of its industry forums in London and Birmingham in March, entitled 'Environmental Issues Facing the Direct Marketing Industry'.
The events were attended by more than 100 delegates with six speakers including the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and Postcomm, and raised issues regarding making mail media responsible and sustainable for the future as well as helping to reduce carbon footprint and landfill.
Presentations covered the recently launched DMA standard PAS 2020: Direct Mail - Environmental Performance Specification; the Royal Mail product Responsible Mail, which offers financial incentives to businesses that go green; government legislation; and feedback from research carried out in consumer focus groups.
Event feedback findings report that many will now consider making changes to their direct-mail activity, which include: carrying out more data cleaning and improving targeting; using recycle logos; considering environmentally friendly ways to direct mail; and considering removal of polywrap.
Onepost has recently been awarded the BS EN ISO 14001:2004 standard in recognition that it has implemented a robust environmental policy.
