The Manchester Building Society has launched a Maestro debit card to extend its comprehensive portfolio of investment and mortgage products, helped by the Nomad Payments outsourced service.

Since its recent acquisition of Whiteaway Laidlaw Bank, one of The Manchester Building Society's main priorities was to extend its banking facilities by offering customers the benefits of a debit card scheme, and Nomad, one of the market-leading card payment processors, helped it to realise this opportunity The complexities of the merger, together with migrating Whiteaway Laidlaw Bank's existing Switch card customers to Manchester's own host system (Summit), presented a number of challenges for the project

However, with the help of Nomad's team andits strong partnership with the Newcastle Building Society, acting as principal MasterCard member, the Manchester has been able to launch its new UK Domestic Maestro chip product on schedule.

"With Nomad's support the migration was more straightforward than we could have hoped," said Paul Lynch, Operations Director at The Manchester Building Society.
