No.9 Media, a digital sales agency focusing on the online sports sector, has launched to consolidate media representation for independent sports publishers and more give more choice to advertisers.

No.9 Media has already signed up www.goal.com, www.fanbanta.com and www.fansfc.com and expects to represent at least 12 of the largest independent sports sites by the end of October 2007, collectively forming an impressive network comprising 3-4 million of UK digital sports consumers No.9 Media will be headed by managing director, Iain Linkleter, one of the most experienced commercial experts in this sector, having previously been the commercial director for brands such as Football365, TeamTalk, Planet Rugby, Sporting Life and Rivals

Joining Linkleter is Darren Kietz, former head of agency sales at Sky Media.

As sales director of No.9 Media, he will be responsible for representing the sports publishers and building relationships with media-buying agencies.

"Due to recent consolidation and BSkyB's subsequent stronghold in the sports publishing market, there is currently very little choice or commercial flexibility for potential advertisers wishing to secure mass market exposure to a sports audience," commented Linkleter.

"No.9 Media has been established to challenge this imbalance in the market by providing independent representation to sports publishers outside of existing opportunities, and giving advertisers more choice and negotiating power".

No.9 Media offers a real alternative for advertisers who want to reach a sports audience through independent sites as well as, or instead of, those represented by Sky Media, by allowing them to co-ordinate exposure through a central point without having to embark on numerous campaigns with a range of different independent sites, which can be time consuming and labour intensive.

"Buying a targeted sports audience over the last year has been critical and with the formation of No.9 Media we now have choice again and can spread the media for a series of our clients," commented Dan Clays, MD, Quantum Media.

"The team at No.9 have a strong heritage in understanding where the value lies for our clients and we look forward to working with them on behalf of our clients".

Independent sports publishers will benefit by joining the No.9 Media network, by gaining increased exposure to media buyers and advertisers and ultimately an increased share of advertising budgets without having to employ an in-house team of sales experts to generate commercial revenue from their website.
