New Venture has announced a new date for its Perfect Pitch Masterclass, a training course on how to pitch article and interview ideas, as well as press briefings, to journalists.

The half-day course will take place in London on 23 October 2008 and booking is open on New Venture's website.

The Perfect Pitch Masterclass is based around 11 modules that take participants through every stage of preparing different kinds of pitches.

Course segments deal with how to use a synopsis to pitch an article, how to pitch an interview opportunity, how to prepare and make a telephone pitch and many other topics.

The course is based on a 69-page workbook, which contains comprehensive notes as well as dozens of comments from editors and journalists.

The presenter is author and journalist Peter Bartram, who has written seven books on media and communications topics.

The course is based on a research project in which 75 editors and senior journalists from a range of newspapers and magazines explained what they want when they receive pitches from PR professionals.

The research revealed that the average journalist receives 51 pitches a week from PR people, but some newspapers and magazines get hundreds a week.
