Neptune Digital, a leading name in the emerging global digital signage industry, has launched the high-powered, multifunctional Proteus model.

Powered by an ARM9/DSP chipset, the Proteus is a complete digital signage solution that incorporates sturdy yet elegant hardware with easy to use and highly functional software developed by the European manufacturer Neptune Digital Entering the market as an entry-level/mid-range solution, the Proteus offers all of the features required in the market today, at a very aggressive price

"When we started out, just under one year ago," stated Matija Klinkon, CEO of Neptune Digital, "we wanted to develop a product that was not just functional and flexible, but also affordable.

"This is what we have achieved with our initial product - the Proteus".

The Proteus offers some of the most functional software on the market that is both powerful and user friendly.

Features such as scrolling text, RSS feed support and dynamic text and pictures come as standard, as well as user-defined scenario layouts, and scheduled playlists and content uploads.

As well as several pre-configured scenarios being available, there is a wide selection of layouts for each different scenario, which are completely user-definable, the size and location of each segment being left to the user.

This allows users to configure their media playback the way they want it using XML files.

Users can even update the dynamic text by SMS, sending in their own personal messages.

"Offering a combination of hardware and flexible software ensures that users of the Proteus can always add their own look and feel," continued Klinkon.

Attention to detail has been adhered to in every part of the development of the Proteus.

With the standard unit offering a LAN connection, the device can also be upgraded with a USB wireless or Bluetooth dongle, as well as a 3G HSDPA device for additional connectivity.

This allows users to upload and update media content from anywhere at any time.

Optional extras such as GPS, touch screen and motion sensor support will be available as firmware upgrades over the coming months.

Live television streaming via a USB TV device such as DVB-T, ATSC or ISDBT will also be available early in 2008.

"Making the Proteus upgradeable was one of the fundamental requirements when we started to develop the product," concluded Klinkon.

"Essentially we want to offer everything that our client base needs, so we offer a wide array of optional extras".

Media content can be stored on either an internal 2.5" hard drive or an SD card, and the Proteus can even support live video streaming direct from the server.

An integrated real-time clock ensures perfect synchronisation of the playing media at all times.

The Proteus from Neptune Digital is available from January 2008, and will be distributed by a global network of channel partners.

Neptune Digital was established in 2006 to develop an array of affordable digital signage solutions.

With many years experience of hardware and software development the company has quickly been able to establish itself as a fore-runner in the emerging technology of digital signage.

Basing the development of products around the requirements of the market, and incorporating high-quality components with elegant design, Neptune Digital is able to offer the most innovative products on the market while keeping the prices aggressive.

Neptune Digital has a comprehensive product roadmap and will introduce several new models on to the market during the coming two years.
