3M high-strength tape has high holding power

A 3M product story

3M has reported how its VHB high-strength tape has been selected by Woodhouse to fix signage onto a range of surfaces in public areas and car parks at Cabot Circus Shopping Centre.

The company said its VHB tape was selected for its ease-of-use and performance in potentially damp and oily conditions.

Large feature panels went up quickly, look good, and proved impossible to remove by hand.

Woodhouse fitted more than 40 different designs of signs - 1,800 in total, each taking moments to attach.

Alternative methods would have taken an hour or more per sign.

No holes needed to be drilled, and, unlike alternative liquid-based adhesives, the tape did not require constant pressure while setting.

The efficiency savings were critical in the hectic days before the Cabot Circus launch last September.

VHB tapes are available in a range of widths and thickness for rigid and flexible surfaces.

Preparation is simple - washing surfaces with a solution of 50:50 isopropyl alcohol (IPA), with some glossy surfaces requiring a slight scuffing with an abrasive pad for maximum strength bonding.

IPA and pads are also available from 3M.

The VHB tapes provide high holding power and long-term reliability indoors and outdoors, bonding metals, plastics, glass, foam board and more.

VHB tapes also avoid the need for drilling, screwing, riveting or welding.
