Green seminar inspires business leaders
The 'Going Green - Inspiring People' seminar run by international events company MotivAction attracted 100 business executives to discuss how companies can reduce their environmental impact.
Paul O'Neil, MotivAction's live team manager and creative force behind Business United, said: "The beauty is it's simple to understand but simulates the complex nature of the dilemmas and choices we face in business every day - it constantly forces teams to focus on their purpose, their planning and their priorities.
"And where else would you get to buy Ronaldhino, tell Rooney he's on the bench this week, sack the board and do exactly what you want wearing a Russian hat - apart from Chelsea that is?" In the game, players are placed in charge of their own football club for a simulated football season, aiming for good performances in both the football and financial leagues in order to finish high in the 'Footie 100 Index'.
The game is based around team members taking on different character roles, each coming with their own inherent tasks and responsibilities.
The roles, which include club chairman, director of football and marketing manager, encourage trust in others to do their jobs whilst concentrating on doing one's own.
The tangible part each individual plays in the performance of the whole team becomes more visible and the dynamic function of a team is demonstrated.
With participant performance benefits that include delegation and management skills, negotiation, goal setting, planning and logistical thinking, Business United can also be used as a conference breakout or a diagnostic activity on a graduate recruitment day.
The game incorporates the buying and selling of renowned football players from the past and present, the building of football stadia and the acquisition of lucrative sponsorship deals.
The game can be used to drive culture within business by utilising brand or company values.
It can also identify key leadership values of team members and is experiential, so important lessons are effectively embedded in participants.
The game can be used as a one-off or as part of a wider-reaching team-building programme.
