Top Safety Accreditation for MotivAction

A The Motivaction Group product story

MotivAction is one the first event management companies in the UK to join a leading-edge scheme designed to help industry improve its safety record.

The Hertfordshire-based firm recently received accreditation from SAFEcontractor, a programme which recognises very high standards of health and safety practice amongst UK contractors.

With the Corporate Manslaughter Bill and Corporate Homicide Bill receiving Royal Assent in July this year, there is now a heightened emphasis on increased safety and responsibility in all workplaces.

Employing 100 people, MotivAction is principally involved in corporate events, team development and leadership education.

Specialising in the motivation, communication and event industries and with GBP12 million turnover, MotivAction's regular clients have included FTSE 100 companies such as T-Mobile and Microsoft.

The company's application for SAFEcontractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business and the desire to test the company's standards against the best.

MotivAction has recognised the importance of safety throughout its 20-year history.

Delivering around 1,000 events each year, some for up to 35,000 people, led to the appointment of a full-time, NEBOSH qualified health and safety manager.

Founder and managing director Tim Waygood is confident that the company's new status will be a positive step: "We believe we are the first event management company in the UK to receive safety accreditation like this.

"This demonstrates our dedication to the safety of both our clients and our own staff, and means we'll continue to stay one step ahead of our competitors".

SAFEcontractor accreditation is expected to enhance the company's ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.

SAFEcontractor is operated by international safety, health and environmental risk management specialists, the National Britannia Group.

The system is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to facilities management, leisure, food manufacture and property sectors; all of which are big users of contract services.

James Ostler, managing director of information service at National Britannia, said: "Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies.

"More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that MotivAction has done.

"The firm's high standard has set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector".

Under the SAFEcontractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.

Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database.

Over 80 major nationwide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for a wide range of services.
