MotivAction Motivation is launching a new leadership training programme, Foundations of Leadership.

Based on John Adair's 'Action Centred Leadership' model, the course is aimed at new team leaders and first line managers, or those without previous training With leadership and education a rapidly growing area of corporate spend, Foundations of Leadership's experiential nature is likely to lead to an enhanced return on investment

This return on investment represents long-term benefits in using high-quality leaders within an organisation.

Foundations of Leadership is a two-day residential programme of leadership development reinforced with practical exercises.

Stevenage-based MotivAction offers the programme at its own Leadership Education Centre in the Hertfordshire countryside, or can operate it in any hotel or venue of a client's choice.

The programme targets graduate, personnel and human resources managers, as well as large companies with high staff turnovers.

Having been developed over six months to give optimum learning outcomes, Foundations of Leadership was recently piloted with MotivAction's own managers for constructive feedback and minor adjustments.

The programme is now ready for implementation and is directed by Adrian Price, who champions MotivAction's leadership and education services.

He outlined the importance of leadership skills within businesses: "Leadership acts as the cornerstone of any company and is part of any business's values.

"New Leaders are often appointed and expected to be instantly competent, as if by magic, without any training or practice.

"We now offer an experiential learning programme which lays the foundations of leadership essential for supervisors and first line managers".

These foundations are linked to the expected outcomes of the programme.

The course is structured to improve delegates' skills in leading others, in addition to understanding and reflecting on personal impact as a leader and having a framework to coach and develop others.

The programme will be spearheaded by a team of John Adair Leadership Foundation accredited trainers and facilitators, including former executive vice president of international CRM systems at T-Mobile, Gordon Watt.

There are nine modules spanning different areas of leadership theory as well as post programme coursework.

Each delegate also develops a leadership action plan and can monitor the effectiveness of this using a buddy system.

The course is then followed up after three months with a refresher day to review the delegates' progress with their action plan and implementation.

The technique of Action Centred Learning has been used for over 40 years, and the Foundations of Leadership uses this technique alongside John Adair's 'three circles model', in which a leader is taught to divide their focus between the task, team and individual.

John Adair is the world's leading authority on leadership and leadership development.

Over a million managers worldwide have taken part in the Action Centred Leadership programmes he pioneered.

Adair has been a member of MotivAction's advisory board since 1998 and is confident that the Foundations of Leadership programme will be a success.

He spoke of his belief in the programme: "I am convinced that Action Centred Leadership, as taught by such a team of fully qualified professional trainers who have my full confidence, will provide a firm foundation for becoming an effective leader".
