Williams Murray Hamm, the award-winning design agency and member of Loewy, has been recognised as one of the UK's 'Top 50' design talents in a recent Guardian survey.

The recognition was triggered by the agency's seminal design work such as the 'baked beans' Hovis bread packaging The agency was singled out by a panel of leading designers and creatives, including Emily Campbell, the first head of design and architecture at The British Council, responsible for commissioning the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale; design writer and curator Max Fraser; Alice Rawsthorne, design critic of the International Herald Tribune and former director of London's Design Museum; and Alasdhair Willis, founder of Wallpaper* magazine

The survey, which appeared in the Weekend Guardian (magazine) said of WMH: "The work, daringly for packaging design, often eschews the obvious - baked beans adorn Hovis' Great White Loaf and they photographed organic vegetables - roots and all - for Sainsbury's SO range".

Richard Williams, one of WMH co-founders, said: "It's a thrill to know that the work we are doing is making itself known, particularly among industry experts such as these.

"WMH celebrates its 10th anniversary next year and we're still very hungry and determined to stick our heads above the parapet in design terms - to be recognised for that is a great triumph for the agency".

Leading brand-maker WMH has won almost 150 international design awards, including, most recently, a prestigious DBA Design Effectiveness Award for the agency's simple packaging for Sainsbury's SO organic food and drink range.

WMH also topped the 2006 Design Week league tables for both creativity and commercial effectiveness.

The agency's innovative and provocative ideas have revolutionised brands such as Hovis, Clipper Teas, Jaffa Cakes and Horlicks.

In each case their work has had a clearly demonstrable impact on the bottom line, delivering impressive uplift in sales.

More recently the company has handled major corporate identity work for Royal Ahold and Fortnum and Mason.

Last year, the agency joined Loewy, the UK's fast growing marketing group, in a merger deal worth GBP7m with Loewy CEO Charlie Hoult recognising them as 'the leading design agency of its generation'.

Richard Williams is a fellow of The Royal Society of Arts and a member of the Design Council.

Richard Murray is a member of The Marketing Society and the DandAD.

He is also a popular face on the UK and international lecture circuit.

Garrick Hamm is currently Chairman of the DandAD Education Committee and recently announced as the organisation's Deputy President.
