Limelight Sports - responsible for developing and managing some of the UK's largest mass participation sports events - is to manage the London Youth Games for the next three years.

The contract to manage the London Youth Games for the next three years is worth over GBP1 million The grassroots sports marketing and project management company has won competitive two-way pitch and was responsible for promoting and running this year's event held over the summer

The London Youth Games involve 25,000 young Londoners aged between 7 and 17 years from 32 London Boroughs and the City of London competing in 30 sports for the Jubilee Trophy.

The event was inaugurated in 1977 as part of the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations.

Craig Dews, managing director of Limelight Sports, said: "The London Youth Games is already Europe's largest youth sports event and this year we saw a significant increase in participation numbers.

"This will to some extent be due to the Olympic factor, and it is part of our job to ensure participants maintain their involvement with sport in the future".

Anthony Kendall, Chairman of the London Youth Games Organising Committee, said: "The London Youth Games has flourished over the past 30 years into a huge spectacle of sport, and we're delighted with current levels of participation.

"Young people from all over London can see the benefits of being involved in sport and they are only likely to get more and more enthused as the Olympics beckon.

"Our aim is to grow the games significantly in the years leading up to London 2012 and keep providing competitive sporting opportunities beyond Olympics.

"The major challenge is to ensure they keep coming once the Olympic torch moves on elsewhere".

Limelight Sports delivers exceptional grassroots sports events with the single guiding principle of changing people's attitudes and behaviour.

It looks to maximise the impact of events by linking them into wider communication or delivery frameworks incorporating marketing and public relations strategies.

Limelight also brings together partnerships across public, private and voluntary sectors and has been instrumental in delivering sustainable long-term outcomes.

Previous and ongoing projects include: Nike RunLondon, Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile, Swimathon, London Summer of Sport, JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge, and The London Youth Games.

Limelight Sports offers a complete event management service.

It develops an initial project brief that provides a detailed understanding of a client's cause, objectives, marketplace, events strategy and supporters.

The company then develops and agrees a creative delivery concept and applies its event management skills to produce an event plan, before delivering the event itself.

Limelight Sports' core work in sports programmes spans three main areas: Sports Marketing, Sports Development and Event Fundraising.

Limelight Sports also has two sister companies focused on non-sports programmes: Limelight Community creates and manages corporate social responsibility programmes and campaigns within the community sector; Limelight Interactive is a web solutions provider specialising in the provision of content-managed registration and fundraising tools for events and campaigns.
