Contender prepares new Peppa lines

Licensing.biz has reported that the popular pre-school character Peppa Pig is looking for new licensees and fresh product ranges.

Contender's Peppa Pig is continuing to hold firm as the number two pre-school licence in the UK, according to new data from NPD The character is just behind Thomas and Friends for the second consecutive month in the October NPD data

Sales across all Peppa licensed product categories are continuing to rise in the run-up to Christmas, too.

The character's latest DVD - Peppa's Christmas - has sold 41,149 units in its first month at retail, making it the biggest Peppa Pig DVD release to date.

The extended episode of Peppa's Christmas is also due to air on Christmas Day on Five's Milkshake and Nick Jr.

Meanwhile, the new spring 2008 toy line from Character Options is Peppa's Electronic Spaceship, with the official launch due on Boxing Day.

The TV campaign will kick off in January, while further toy lines are in development for summer/autumn 2008.

In addition, following a second successful season for Peppa in the Next Directory, the firm has confirmed another full, dedicated page for a range of product lines in spring 2008.

Finally, new licensees on board include Danjam, which is producing wooden toys for 2008, Worlds Apart for pop-up play tents and My First Ready Beds, Golden Bear for a Peppa Pig Draw and Drive and Alligator for paper-based creative play.

Ladybird will also produce the first Peppa Pig annual in 2008.
