Edited by the Marketingweek Marketplace editorial team Apr 30, 2008

The Institute of Direct Marketing has announced the finalists for the 2008 IDM Business Performance Awards, sponsored this year by data value management company DQM Group.

The 2008 Awards have seen a particularly strong showing for digital, with a record level of high quality entries across the digital categories.

In the running for the top-tier Diamond Award are (in alphabetical order): Abbey / TequilaLondon; BT Business / OgilvyOne Worldwide; Haven Holidays / Latitude Group; IBM / Connection2; RSPCA / Mike Colling and Co; Thomson / WDMP Communications; Virgin Media / Rapier.

From this list of finalists, the judges will award the much-coveted Diamond to the direct marketing programme judged to have made the most exceptional strategic contribution to overall business success.

A Silver and Bronze award will also be given, and, if the judges deem it appropriate, further programmes may be awarded Highly Commended status.

In the remaining 12 sub-categories, the Facets, 20 finalists have been selected out of a possible 24.

Each award in the Facets will recognise excellence in a specific marketing discipline in either direct, data or digital marketing.

A winner and/or runner-up are usually awarded, unless, in a particular category, the entries failed to meet the judges' high standards.

Adrian Gregory, M IDM, BPA judge and Managing Director of awards sponsor DQM Group, commented: "It's been both exciting and a privilege to be involved in the judging of the 2008 IDM BPA awards.

"The standard of the work from these finalists is testament to the wealth of sheer talent and dedication in our profession.

"The number and quality of entries in the digital categories in particular have been exceptional.

"The judges saw not only campaigns which were striking, but which also produced outstanding results for the entrants' business".

Final award winners will be announced on the evening of 29 May at an IDM BPA Gala Dinner at the Royal Garden Hotel in London's Kensington.

The presentations will be made by guest speaker, comedian and Comedy Store stalwart Paul Thorne.

Tickets to the event can be purchased online.

In 2007 the BPA Diamond winners were BBC TV Licensing and their agency Proximity, for their TV Licensing Students Campaign.

Previous winners have included AA Insurance, Gala Bingo, Legal and General, NSPCC, Saab Great Britain, Automobile Association, MandG Investments and Goldfish Card.
