IDM Business Performance Awards unveil finalists

The Institute of Direct Marketing has released the shortlist of finalists in the 2007 IDM Business Performance Awards, sponsored once again by Occam DM.

In a year that has seen some of the highest standards of entry yet, 32 entrants are through to the final stages of judging.

Ten outstanding submissions are in contention for the highly prized BPA Diamond, the scheme's top award, reserved for the direct marketing programme judged to have made the most exceptional strategic contribution to overall business success.

A Diamond, Silver and Bronze award will be given, along with Highly Commended where the judges deem it appropriate.

The finalists for the Diamond award are (in alphabetical order): BBC TV Licensing / Proximity London; Bowater / Business Growth Direct; BUPA / in-house; Hewlett Packard / Meteorite; Hewlett Packard / Tidalwave; Oxfam / DraftFCB; Picture Financial / Watson Phillips Norman; Royal Bank of Scotland / Hall Moore CHI; Tesco Stores / EHS Brann ;Which? / Mike Colling and Co; In addition, three sub-categories, or Facets, representing the IDM's three main areas of expertise - Direct, Data and Digital - contain up to four awards, each of which recognise excellence in a specific marketing discipline.

A winner and a runner-up will be awarded for each category, the finalists for which are as follows (please note - where there is only one finalist listed, the entrant's final position may be winner or runner-up).

Direct - Acquisition: Oxfam / Draft FCB; Which? / Mike Colling and Co.

Direct - Retention: Carphone Warehouse / WDMP Communications; Cats Protection / TDA.

Direct - Creative: Navigator Responsive Advertising / Navigator Responsive Advertising; Welsh National Opera / in-house.

Direct - Innovation: Welsh National Opera / in-house.

Data - Targeting: PDSA / EuroDirect; Royal Mail / DQM Group.

Data - Customer Insight: GB Airways / EHS Brann Discovery; The Pension Service / in-house.

Data - Best use in B2B: Invitrogen / EMarket2; Royal Mail / DQM Group.

DatA - Innovation: Liverpool Victoria / CACI.

Digital - Acquisition: AA / Dare; Monarch Airlines / Greenlight.

Digital - Retention: GB Airways / EHS Brann Discovery; Tesco Stores / Forward.

Digital - Creative: COI/Home Office / Profero; Oxfam / DraftFCB.

Digital - Branding: Avis Europe / OgilvyOne Worldwide; Barclays / Dare.

IDM Chairman Simon Hall commented: "It's especially gratifying that, in our 20th anniversary year, we've had so many entries of such a high standard.

"The digital sector in particular has impressed us with both the level and quality of submissions.

"Arriving at the final winner's list will be a tough job indeed".

The winners will be announced at the IDM BPA Gala Dinner on the evening of 15 May at London's Marriot Grosvenor Square Hotel, where ITN's entertaining former political editor, John Sargeant, will be guest speaker.

Previous winners of the top prize have included Gala Bingo, Legal and General, NSPCC, Saab Great Britain, Automobile Association, MandG Investments and Goldfish Card.
