Logitech launches webcam viral game invasion
Logitech has launched a fun new multilingual viral game - 'Invasion of The Webcam Snatchers' - through digital communications agency Inbox Digital.
The game aims to drive awareness of the company's latest premium webcams - the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and the Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks; as well as promote the new, High Quality Video calling experience offered by Skype and enabled by the webcams.
'Invasion of the Webcam Snatchers' mimics a video calling experience, creating the effect that the player has a Logitech webcam sitting on top of their computer screen.
On the other side of the video call is a woman sitting at her desk and performing various activities: typing on a Logitech keyboard, making a Skype video call and day dreaming.
Cheeky animated alien characters appear randomly on the screen running from left to right or beaming down from a UFO.
The characters try to steal the webcam with only the player's laser to stop them.
If the player accidentally zaps the lady, she reacts and holds the part of her body that has been hit.
If ten aliens escape from the screen, it's game over.
From the game interface players can buy Logitech High Quality Video webcam packages from the Skype online shop at Skype.com/shop, and if they subscribe to the Logitech newsletter they are sent an email with a code for an additional 5 per cent discount.
Skype offers free shipping and a complementary Logitech headset when a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 or QuickCam Pro for Notebooks webcam package is purchased from the Skype shop.
Players are also driven to a landing page to learn more about Logitech webcams.
In turn, this links to the Skype shop where they can use their voucher to claim free Skype credit good for up to two hours of SkypeOut calls to landline or mobiles.
Players can also recruit friends to play and start a league by sending a pre-populated email.
Ryan Stuczynski, european product manager for internet communications at Logitech, commented: "Inbox Digital has created a unique, easy to play but hard to master game that is guaranteed to entertain our consumers.
"We're confident that the game will attract interest in Logitech's QuickCam Pro 9000 and QuickCam Pro for Notebooks webcams and the high quality video calling experience they offer with Skype's new software".
Oli Christie, creative director at Inbox Digital said: "For this breakthrough game we've taken inspiration from film classics such as 'Invasion of The Body Snatchers', using animation and video simultaneously combined with a strong story line to highlight the performance of Logitech's webcams and maximise brand engagement.".
