Libraries offer book inserts to
advertisers

In a ground-breaking initiative, UK libraries are offering advertising agencies and their clients the opportunity to place promotional inserts within their books.

The scheme, pioneered by direct marketing specialist Howse Jackson Marketing, in partnership with Brandspace CMS, offers advertisers 500,000 inserts in county libraries such as Essex, Dorset, Somerset and also Bromley, Leeds and Southend The scheme aims to cover the UK by mid-2008 with a total of 3 million plus inserts available per month

Inserts, weighing up to 9 grammes, are placed in each book as it is hired from the library with just a single insert per person in order to avoid wastage.

Furthermore, only one insert campaign will be allowed each month offering advertisers exclusivity across what is a unique advertising channel.

Mark Jackson, business development director of HJ Marketing, said: "Library inserts are innovative, unique and offer audience segments that can be traditionally hard to reach.

"Using library books as an advertising medium provides additional revenue for the libraries to invest in books and therefore allows advertisers to contribute directly to local communities".

Sean Fairnell, client manager of Brandspace CMS, said: "Advertisers can use library inserts in the knowledge that the funds will be used to both improve library services and purchase books.

"Furthermore, by only allowing one insert per month, we hope to ensure that the integrity of the library system remains intact whilst also ensuring the service is viewed as a premium advertising channel". Request a free brochure from Howse Jackson Marketing ...
