The full programme of seminars taking place at the Health and Safety 07 event at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton, on 10 and 11 October has been announced.

The event, sponsored by DuPont, combines a high quality educational programme with an exhibition Seminars at the event are delivered by industry experts and by IOSH members representing the Manchester and North West Districts Branch

The breadth of information delivered in the seminars makes the event equally appealing for those employed in engineering, manufacturing and construction as it does the public sector with highly respected speakers delivering papers in all sectors.

Amongst the highlights on the first day of the event, 10 October 2007, is the seminar on Manual Handling delivered by Malcolm Tumbridge, representing IOSH.

The perennial problems associated with Manual Handling continue to be a major cause of absence in the workplace.

Malcolm Tumbridge, speaking from experience, will describe a process used to identify manual handling problems and assessments that identify not just the risk but practical solutions to implementing a safe system of work.

Universal areas of concern such as working at height and noise management are also discussed on day one by experts such as Peter Wilson and Mike Denton of Aearo while those in construction and civil engineering might be particularly interested in Wayne Bagnall, MBE's seminar on 'Good Project Management'.

Wayne is a recognised authority in the Asbestos and Demolition industry, he authored the CITB Demolition module, HSE Demolition guidance and part drafted the BS6187:2000 Demolition code, and will provide an insight into effective project management within the construction industry in general and demolition in particular.

Highlights on day two, Thursday 11 October, include Elaina Harvey's seminar on Thermal Protection Against Electric Arc and Flash Fire which addresses the imminent update of the IEC 61482 Standard for personal protection against electric arc.

PPE is the subject of great debate on Day two with Jim Findlay asking the question 'CE marking, what does it really mean?' while Ian Samson addresses European legislation.

Other major topics addressed on day two of the event include the latest information surrounding fire regulations, asbestos, industrial accident investigation and also advice on how to measure risk protection, maximise safety and increase productivity.

Emphasising the high quality of the entire educational programme, members of IOSH should note that attending the seminar programme offers the opportunity to accrue Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.
