GMC Software Technology has announced the launch of Printnet Designer 6.0, which will be demonstrated at the Print 09 event at the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago, US, on 11-16 September.

Printnet Designer 6.0 is said to enable the rapid creation, management and production of complex personalised documents for transpromo, direct marketing, on-demand publishing, customer correspondence and transactional applications.

GMC said Printnet Designer 6.0 enhancements and features that improve and extend the product's functionality in the areas of colour management and the repurposing of legacy print streams, as well as improvements in proofing and pre-flight.

Printnet Designer 6.0 adds support for the Pantone Matching System and Pantone Goe, enabling users to make precise colour matches for personalised direct mail, transactional, transpromo applications and other documents.

As a result, enterprises and print service providers can switch from costly pre-printed, offset-printed 'shells' to 100 per cent digital colour on plain stock, saving time and money while still meeting stringent corporate colour specifications.

In addition, Printnet Designer 6.0 contains features that allow enterprise users and print service providers to more precisely estimate ink and toner usage for print runs and manage ink and toner inventory while maintaining environmental practices.

While Printnet Designer has long been able to repurpose spooled print files, v6.0 adds to this capability by allowing users to import Printer Command Language (PCL) files as fully editable objects for design and layout modification.

This removes the need to redesign the document from scratch in situations where the document producer does not have access to the original data or the application that created the file is not accessible.

Printnet Designer 6.0 will also feature improvements that are said to enhance accuracy when estimating ink usage.

Job pre-flight shows the percentage of coverage for each digital (CMYK) output colour.

End users can now estimate printing jobs with greater precision, allowing them to better control costs.
