The Queen has commended Basingstoke entrepreneur Liz Jackson by presenting her with an MBE for Service to Business at Buckingham Palace.
Liz Jackson received the award not only for her outstanding achievements in the business world but also for setting an incredible example to others and being a real inspiration Founder and Managing Director of Great Guns Marketing, Jackson has overcome considerable barriers to experience incredible success in her work life
Starting her company in 1998 with a grant and a loan from The Prince's Trust, she lost her sight completely a year into her business.
In spite of this, her determination and positive attitude have ensured that the company has thrived and grown into the GBP2.5 million turnover success story that it is today.
Blindness has never limited Jackson, whose determination and vision, along with her sense of humour, have resulted in huge demand for her speaking engagements; she has spoken at events such as Legal and General's conference, IBM's conference and Everywoman.
Whether her audience is the business community, those with disabilities or school children and youth groups, she provides a witty, moving speech that offers enjoyment and inspiration to all.
MBEs are awarded for outstanding achievements to the community.
Jackson was nominated by one of Great Guns' clients and she only found out about the nomination when she received a letter from Number 10 Downing Street in November 2006.
Liz Jackson said: "I was so surprised to find out about the MBE nomination and incredibly shocked to find out that I was being given one, just for doing something that I love.
"I always dream big and one of those has come true with the success of Great Guns - however I never imagined that I would receive an MBE for it.".
