GoCarbonFree launches shopping portal
UK-based GoCarbonFree has launched a shopping portal that gives customers free personal carbon credits - and therefore reduces their carbon footprint - while they shop.
GoCarbonFree aims to bridge the gap between the consumer economy and economic sustainability, and allows shoppers to compensate for the carbon emissions produced by their purchases with an equivalent carbon saving - at no cost to them.
GoCarbonFree users can offset their home, car, air travel, events and consumer purchases simply by shopping on the portal.
The website is also committed to informing and educating people about the severe climate change issues and offers a free online newsletter distributed to 2 million people.
GoCarbonFree's registered users will be available for third-party list rental.
However, all opt-in email addresses in GoCarbonFree's current inventory of 2 million records will now carry a 'carbon tax' that email marketers will pay to offset the carbon generated by computer terminals.
The radical rebranding of Vivid Medianet to become GoCarbonFree reflects a fundamental change in the company's philosophy, with 50 per cent of the company's profits going into environmental causes.
In addition all GoCarbonFree shareholders have agreed not to take any dividends but to reinvest the profits in renewable technologies and progressive environmental programmes.
