West Sussex printing company Gemini Press is helping the Woodland Trust with its campaign to plant 12 million trees to bring new life to Britain's native woodlands.

Gemini Press at Dolphin Way, Shoreham-by-Sea, is proving its green credentials by donating financial support to help fund the Woodland Trust's campaign The initiative, which is being headed by Gemini Press director Nigel Holmes, will see the business donate 5% of the first order from any new client during 2007 to the Woodland Trust through its Tree For All campaign

Holmes said: "The print industry often has a negative image mainly for the materials used in the printing process.

"At Gemini, we already have in place a number of procedures to help reduce the impact on the environment such as paper from sustainable sources and vegetable based inks.

"We also sent saplings to clients instead of Christmas cards and where possible encourage supplying proofs via email and not through the post, which helps reduce the amount of paper used and cuts down on the use of postal services and fuel they burn.

"We have linked up with the Woodland Trust because it is such a worthy cause and enables us to replace trees which are used in the printing process and help to protect and enhance the countryside environment which is one of Britain's natural treasures and most precious resources".

The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity and aims to prevent any further loss of ancient woodland, restore and improve woodland biodiversity and increase the area of new native woodland.

Janice Hix, corporate fundraising manager for the Woodland Trust, said: "We're delighted to receive support and funding from Gemini Press to help us create much-needed woodland here in the UK.

"It is also heartening to see that the company is committed to reducing its environmental impact, such as opting for paper from sustainable and recycled sources".

As well as the Woodland Trust, Gemini Press is a long-term corporate supporter of Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT).

For over 10 years SWT has enjoyed a beneficial relationship with Gemini, which regularly prints the Trust's membership magazine, newsletters and reserve guides.

On hearing of Gemini's new initiative with the Woodland Trust, SWT chief executive Dr Tony Whitbread said: "With Sussex containing one of the highest concentrations of ancient woodland in the UK, it's fantastic news that Gemini is supporting an initiative to breathe new life into our native woodland.

"Tree planting is only good for the environment if the right trees are planted in the right place.

"It is therefore particularly good that Gemini is working with the Woodland Trust, which will ensure that new woods will deliver real environmental gain".

Gemini Press is committed to being environmentally responsible and is currently working toward the official accreditation ISO 14001.
